| 12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 51, Education Code, is | |
| 14 | 14 | amended by adding Section 51.3522 to read as follows: | |
| 15 | 15 | Sec. 51.3522. HIRING OF DEPARTMENT HEAD. (a) The governing | |
| 16 | 16 | board of an institution of higher education shall approve or | |
| 17 | 17 | disapprove the hiring of the head of each department at the | |
| 18 | 18 | institution. | |
| 19 | 19 | (b) An institution of higher education may not hire a person | |
| 20 | 20 | to act as the head of a department at the institution unless the | |
| 21 | 21 | governing board approves the hire. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
