611 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
712 AN ACT
813 relating to the issuance of a driver's license to certain persons
914 that includes an alternative to the license holder's residence
1015 address.
1116 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1217 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 521.1211, Transportation
1318 Code, is amended to read as follows:
1419 Sec. 521.1211. DRIVER'S LICENSE FOR PAROLE OFFICERS, PEACE
1520 OFFICERS, PROBATION OFFICERS, AND PROSECUTORS.
1621 SECTION 2. Sections 521.1211(a), (a-1), (d), and (f),
1722 Transportation Code, are amended to read as follows:
1823 (a) In this section:
1924 (1) "Parole officer" has the meaning assigned by
2025 Section 508.001, Government Code.
2126 (1-a) "Peace officer" has the meaning assigned by
2227 Article 2A.001, Code of Criminal Procedure, except that the term
2328 includes a special investigator as defined by Article 2A.002, Code
2429 of Criminal Procedure.
2530 (2) "Probation officer" means a law enforcement
2631 professional that supervises individuals placed on probation.
2732 (3) "Prosecutor" means a county attorney, district
2833 attorney, criminal district attorney, assistant county attorney,
2934 assistant district attorney, or assistant criminal district
3035 attorney.
3136 (a-1) This section applies only to a parole officer, a peace
3237 officer, a probation officer, and a prosecutor.
3338 (d) If the holder of a driver's license that includes an
3439 alternative address moves to a new residence, or, for a parole
3540 officer, a probation officer, or a prosecutor, to a new office
3641 address, or if the name of the person is changed by marriage or
3742 otherwise, the license holder shall, not later than the 30th day
3843 after the date of the address or name change, notify the department
3944 and provide the department with the number of the person's driver's
4045 license and, as applicable, the person's:
4146 (1) former and new addresses; or
4247 (2) former and new names.
4348 (f) The department shall accept as an alternative address:
4449 (1) for a parole officer, the address of an office of
4550 the parole officer;
4651 (2) for a peace officer, an address that is in the:
4752 (A) municipality or county of the peace officer's
4853 residence; or
4954 (B) county of the peace officer's place of
5055 employment; [and]
5156 (3) for a probation officer, the address of an office
5257 of the probation officer; and
5358 (4) [(2)] for a prosecutor, the address of an office
5459 of the prosecutor.
5560 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
