12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Section 20.07, Business & Commerce Code, is | |
14 | 14 | amended by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (c) to | |
15 | 15 | read as follows: | |
16 | 16 | (b) The consumer [credit] reporting agency which receives a | |
17 | 17 | correction shall have reasonable procedures to assure that | |
18 | 18 | previously reported inaccurate information in a consumer's file is | |
19 | 19 | corrected in a prompt and timely fashion. | |
20 | 20 | (c) If a consumer provides the consumer reporting agency an | |
21 | 21 | e-mail address for that purpose, the agency shall, not later than | |
22 | 22 | the 30th business day after the date on which the agency corrects | |
23 | 23 | inaccurate information in the consumer's file, e-mail the consumer | |
24 | 24 | a link to an Internet website that allows the consumer to securely | |
25 | 25 | obtain a corrected copy of the consumer's credit report at no cost | |
26 | 26 | to the consumer. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | |
28 | 28 | to a correction submitted to a consumer reporting agency on or after | |
29 | 29 | the effective date of this Act. | |
30 | 30 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
