77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to requiring consumer reporting agencies to notify a
1010 consumer when inaccurate information in the consumer's file is
1111 corrected.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 20.07, Business & Commerce Code, is
1414 amended by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (c) to
1515 read as follows:
1616 (b) The consumer [credit] reporting agency which receives a
1717 correction shall have reasonable procedures to assure that
1818 previously reported inaccurate information in a consumer's file is
1919 corrected in a prompt and timely fashion.
2020 (c) If a consumer provides the consumer reporting agency an
2121 e-mail address for that purpose, the agency shall, not later than
2222 the 30th business day after the date on which the agency corrects
2323 inaccurate information in the consumer's file, e-mail the consumer
2424 a link to an Internet website that allows the consumer to securely
2525 obtain a corrected copy of the consumer's credit report at no cost
2626 to the consumer.
2727 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2828 to a correction submitted to a consumer reporting agency on or after
2929 the effective date of this Act.
3030 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
