77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to instruction on hunter education for public high school
1010 students.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 28.0121 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 28.0121. HUNTER EDUCATION PROGRAM. (a) A school
1515 district or open-enrollment charter school that offers a high
1616 school program may provide to students in one or more courses
1717 offered for high school graduation instruction on hunter education
1818 based on the curriculum guidelines developed under Subsection (b).
1919 (b) The State Board of Education shall develop curriculum
2020 guidelines for hunter education. The curriculum guidelines must:
2121 (1) be developed in cooperation with the Parks and
2222 Wildlife Department; and
2323 (2) meet the requirements necessary to receive a
2424 hunter education certificate under Section 62.014(c), Parks and
2525 Wildlife Code.
2626 SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date
2727 of this Act, the State Board of Education shall develop the
2828 curriculum guidelines required under Section 28.0121(b), Education
2929 Code, as added by this Act.
3030 SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026
3131 school year.
3232 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3333 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3434 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3535 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3636 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
