9 | 9 | | relating to a study regarding the effects of perfluoroalkyl and |
---|
10 | 10 | | polyfluoroalkyl chemicals on public health. |
---|
11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. STUDY. The president of the University of |
---|
13 | 13 | | Houston shall designate a department or entity at the university to |
---|
14 | 14 | | conduct, in collaboration with the Railroad Commission of Texas and |
---|
15 | 15 | | the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, a study on the |
---|
16 | 16 | | effects of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl chemicals on public |
---|
17 | 17 | | health. The study must include an assessment of the health impact of |
---|
18 | 18 | | perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl chemicals found in: |
---|
19 | 19 | | (1) produce, meat, and other food and beverage |
---|
20 | 20 | | products, including their packaging; |
---|
21 | 21 | | (2) groundwater, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and other |
---|
22 | 22 | | water sources used to supply the public with drinking water; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | (3) equipment or materials that: |
---|
24 | 24 | | (A) likely contain perfluoroalkyl and |
---|
25 | 25 | | polyfluoroalkyl chemicals; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | (B) regularly come in contact with |
---|
27 | 27 | | professionals, including firefighters and chemical manufacturing |
---|
28 | 28 | | workers. |
---|
29 | 29 | | SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than December 1, 2026, |
---|
30 | 30 | | the department or entity at the University of Houston designated |
---|
31 | 31 | | by the president of the university to conduct the study under |
---|
32 | 32 | | Section 1 of this Act shall prepare a report with the conclusions of |
---|
33 | 33 | | the study and submit the report to the legislature. |
---|
34 | 34 | | SECTION 3. EXPIRATION. This Act expires December 31, 2026. |
---|
35 | 35 | | SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September |
---|
36 | 36 | | 1, 2025. |
