77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to required labeling of meat, poultry, shrimp, and certain
1010 related food products.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 433, Health and Safety
1313 Code, is amended by adding Section 433.046 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 433.046. LABELING OF MEAT, POULTRY, AND CERTAIN
1515 RELATED FOOD PRODUCTS. In this state, a person may not sell meat, a
1616 meat food product, poultry, or a poultry product unless the food's
1717 label includes a clear and conspicuous notice stating whether the
1818 food originated in this state.
1919 SECTION 2. Subchapter F, Chapter 436, Health and Safety
2020 Code, is amended by adding Section 436.083 to read as follows:
2121 Sec. 436.083. LABELING OF SHRIMP. A person may not sell
2222 shrimp in this state unless the shrimp's label includes a clear and
2323 conspicuous notice stating whether the shrimp originated in this
2424 state.
2525 SECTION 3. As soon as practicable after the effective date
2626 of this Act, the executive commissioner of the Health and Human
2727 Services Commission shall adopt rules necessary to implement
2828 Sections 433.046 and 436.083, Health and Safety Code, as added by
2929 this Act.
3030 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
