77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the provision of services by the Texas Department of
1010 Criminal Justice to offenders with intellectual or developmental
1111 disabilities.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 501.069, Government Code,
1414 is amended to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 501.069. OFFENDERS WITH INTELLECTUAL OR DEVELOPMENTAL
1616 DISABILITIES [DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED OFFENDER] PROGRAM.
1717 SECTION 2. Section 501.069, Government Code, is amended by
1818 adding Subsections (c-1), (c-2), and (e) and amending Subsection
1919 (d) to read as follows:
2020 (c-1) The department shall develop and identify community
2121 resources to assist an offender described by Subsection (b) in
2222 successfully reentering and reintegrating into the community.
2323 (c-2) The department shall develop and implement a reentry
2424 and reintegration plan that is person-centered and based on the
2525 individual needs of an offender described by Subsection (b). The
2626 plan may include the coordination of treatment, identification of
2727 housing assistance, and delivery of other transitional services.
2828 (d) The department may accept gifts, awards, or grants for
2929 the purpose of providing the services described by this section
3030 [Subsection (b)].
3131 (e) Funds appropriated to the department may not be expended
3232 to provide residential housing assistance to an offender described
3333 by Subsection (b) who is serving a sentence for an offense listed in
3434 Section 508.149(a).
3535 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
