69 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
710 AN ACT
811 relating to immunity for ringside physicians assigned to combative
912 sports events.
1013 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1114 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 2052, Occupations Code, is
1215 amended by adding Section 2052.255 to read as follows:
1316 Sec. 2052.255. IMMUNITY FOR RINGSIDE PHYSICIANS.
1417 (a) Except as otherwise provided by this section, a ringside
1518 physician is immune from civil liability arising from acts within
1619 the scope of the physician's responsibilities at a combative sports
1720 event.
1821 (b) The immunity from civil liability provided by
1922 Subsection (a) does not apply to a cause of action arising from an
2023 act or omission constituting gross negligence of the physician.
2124 SECTION 2. Section 2052.255, Occupations Code, as added by
2225 this Act, applies only to an action commenced on or after the
2326 effective date of this Act.
2427 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2528 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2629 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2730 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2831 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
