69 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
710 AN ACT
811 relating to abolishing the Criminal Justice Legislative Oversight
912 Committee.
1013 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1114 SECTION 1. Chapter 328, Government Code, is repealed.
1215 SECTION 2. Section 493.027(b), Government Code, is amended
1316 to read as follows:
1417 (b) The director annually shall submit a report to each
1518 standing committee of the legislature with primary jurisdiction
1619 over the department [the Criminal Justice Legislative Oversight
1720 Committee] on the outcome of any meetings held under this section.
1821 The report must:
1922 (1) be signed by the director and each representative
2023 of an employee organization described by Subsection (a) that
2124 participates in the meetings; and
2225 (2) include a statement from each party regarding the
2326 impact of the meetings on the recruitment and retention of
2427 department employees and on employee morale.
2528 SECTION 3. Section 508.1445(a), Government Code, is amended
2629 to read as follows:
2730 (a) The board annually shall submit a report to [the
2831 Criminal Justice Legislative Oversight Committee,] the lieutenant
2932 governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, and the
3033 presiding officers of the standing committees in the senate and
3134 house of representatives primarily responsible for criminal
3235 justice regarding the board's application of the parole guidelines
3336 adopted under Section 508.144.
3437 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3538 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3639 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3740 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3841 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
