| 11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 22.110, Government Code, is amended by | |
| 13 | 13 | adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | (b-1) The rules adopted under Subsection (b) must exempt | |
| 15 | 15 | from the training requirements of this section each judge or | |
| 16 | 16 | judicial officer, including an associate judge, who files an | |
| 17 | 17 | affidavit stating the judge or judicial officer does not hear cases | |
| 18 | 18 | involving family violence, sexual assault, trafficking of persons, | |
| 19 | 19 | or child abuse and neglect. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date | |
| 21 | 21 | of this Act, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals shall adopt the | |
| 22 | 22 | rules necessary to implement Section 22.110(b-1), Government Code, | |
| 23 | 23 | as added by this Act. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
