| 10 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 571.1242(h), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 12 | 15 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 16 | | (h) Notwithstanding any other law, including Sections |
|---|
| 14 | 17 | | 571.1244 and 571.136: |
|---|
| 15 | 18 | | (1) the [The] deadline under Subsection (g) is tolled |
|---|
| 16 | 19 | | only for the duration of any litigation brought by the respondent or |
|---|
| 17 | 20 | | the commission regarding the complaint at issue; and |
|---|
| 18 | 21 | | (2) the commission may not toll or extend the deadline |
|---|
| 19 | 22 | | under Subsection (g) for a duration other than the duration |
|---|
| 20 | 23 | | described by Subdivision (1) or adopt or enforce a rule to toll or |
|---|
| 21 | 24 | | extend the deadline for a duration other than the duration |
|---|
| 22 | 25 | | described by that subdivision. |

| 23 | 26 | | SECTION 2. Section 571.1242(h), Government Code, as amended |

| 24 | 27 | | by this Act, applies only to a complaint filed with the Texas Ethics |

| 25 | 28 | | Commission under Chapter 571, Government Code, on or after the |

| 26 | 29 | | effective date of this Act. A complaint filed with the Texas Ethics |

| 27 | 30 | | Commission under that chapter before the effective date of this Act |
