| 9 | 9 | | relating to the costs associated with the assessment and |

| 10 | 10 | | destruction of certain deer. |

| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 43.955(a), Parks and Wildlife Code, is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (a) The department [applicable permit holder] shall pay all |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | costs associated with: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (1) an epidemiological assessment conducted under |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | this subchapter to the animal health commission; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (2) [except as provided by Subsection (b),] the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | destruction of deer under this subchapter, including any costs |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | associated with the disposal of the deer [to the department]. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. Sections 43.955(b) and (c), Parks and Wildlife |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Code, are repealed. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to the payment of costs arising from an epidemiological assessment |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | conducted, or the destruction of deer commenced, on or after the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
