69 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
710 WHEREAS, School crossing guards play an indispensable role in
811 keeping children safe on their way to and from school, and the
912 designation of February 10 as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day
1013 serves as a fitting means to celebrate these everyday heroes; and
1114 WHEREAS, Crossing guards are typically assigned to
1215 crosswalks near campuses, particularly elementary schools, where
1316 they help students and school personnel to safely cross the street;
1417 moreover, their presence serves to make drivers more aware of the
1518 increased pedestrian traffic in the area; crossing guards also
1619 guide younger children in learning the best practices for walking
1720 and bicycling near roadways, and they are on hand to respond if an
1821 emergency situation should arise; and
1922 WHEREAS, These dedicated individuals are on duty each school
2023 day, rain or shine, greeting students and staff and serving as
2124 integral members of the campus community; whether working as paid
2225 employees or as volunteers, crossing guards undergo thorough
2326 training that covers relevant procedures as well as traffic
2427 regulations specific to their area; and
2528 WHEREAS, The safety and well-being of our young people is of
2629 paramount concern to every Texan, and the hardworking crossing
2730 guards of our state deserve our heartfelt gratitude for the peace of
2831 mind they bring to our communities; now, therefore, be it
2932 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
3033 hereby designate February 10 as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day;
3134 and, be it further
3235 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
3336 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
3437 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
3538 passed by the legislature.
