77 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
88 WHEREAS, September 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end
99 of World War II, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to
1010 honor the brave and dedicated members of the U.S. military who
1111 served their country in the conflict; and
1212 WHEREAS, On September 2, 1945, the representatives of nine
1313 Allied nations and the surrendering Japanese armed forces signed
1414 the Instrument of Surrender to officially bring World War II to a
1515 close; prepared by the U.S. War Department and approved by
1616 President Harry S. Truman, the document was signed aboard the
1717 battleship USS Missouri, where U.S. Navy Fleet Admiral Chester W.
1818 Nimitz penned his name on behalf of the United States;
1919 Admiral Nimitz, a native of Fredericksburg, commanded more than two
2020 million troops and thousands of ships and planes at the height of
2121 the war in the Pacific Theater and was credited with leading the
2222 navy to victory against the Japanese; and
2323 WHEREAS, The Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Memorial Naval
2424 Museum was opened in Fredericksburg in 1967 in honor of
2525 Admiral Nimitz, who had passed away the previous year at the age of
2626 80; the National Museum of the Pacific War took shape from the
2727 Nimitz Memorial Naval Museum, and at the admiral's earlier request,
2828 it was dedicated to the men and women who served with him in the
2929 Pacific Theater; it is overseen by the Texas Historical Commission,
3030 and in 2006, the U.S. Congress approved the official designation of
3131 the museum, which is the only institution in the continental United
3232 States dedicated exclusively to telling the story of the Pacific
3333 and Asiatic Theaters in World War II; it is also home to the
3434 Admiral Nimitz Gallery, and throughout 2025, the facility will host
3535 a number of public events and programs commemorating the 80th
3636 anniversary of the war's end; and
3737 WHEREAS, Demonstrating remarkable valor and heroism,
3838 Admiral Chester Nimitz and his fellow service members upheld the
3939 highest ideals of our nation's armed forces during World War II, and
4040 Americans owe them a debt of gratitude that the passage of time can
4141 never diminish; now, therefore, be it
4242 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
4343 hereby commemorate the 80th anniversary of the conclusion of World
4444 War II and recognize the National Museum of the Pacific War for its
4545 dedication to honoring those who served and supported the war
4646 effort in the Pacific; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for the museum as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4949 House of Representatives and Senate.
