| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Blue Bell Creameries has become synonymous with ice |

| 9 | 9 | | cream across the Lone Star State and beyond, and the city of Brenham |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | is renowned as the home of this venerable brand; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Blue Bell ice cream traces its roots to the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | establishment of the Brenham Creamery Company in 1907; the business |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | initially manufactured butter using excess cream from area farms, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and a few years later, it began making ice cream and delivering it |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | by horse-drawn wagon; in 1930, the business was renamed Blue Bell |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Creameries in honor of the native Texas wildflower, and in 1958, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | company began to exclusively focus on making ice cream; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | headquartered in Brenham with production facilities located there |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and in Oklahoma and Alabama, Blue Bell is today one of the nation's |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | top-selling ice cream manufacturers, and it markets its products in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 23 states; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, A major city employer and a regional tourist |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | attraction, the Brenham Blue Bell facility has long played a vital |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | role in boosting the area economy; visitors can learn about the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | company's history, observe the manufacturing process, and of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | course, visit the ice cream parlor; in 2025, the Brenham creamery is |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | projected to welcome some 300,000 people; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The frosty deliciousness of ice cream has had an |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | enduring influence on the development and prosperity of Brenham and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | has made the city a popular destination for a multitude of visitors, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | and the community is indeed deserving of recognition for its |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | special role in the culinary heritage of the Lone Star State; now, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | hereby designate Brenham as the official Ice Cream Capital of |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Texas; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Section 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | effect until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | finally passed by the legislature. |
