77 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
88 WHEREAS, President Donald J. Trump has declared that it is in
99 the national interest to promote America's affordable and reliable
1010 energy resources to restore American prosperity; and
1111 WHEREAS, Texas is a national leader in electricity
1212 production, producing more electricity than any other state, nearly
1313 twice as much as the second highest-producing state; and
1414 WHEREAS, Texas continues to lead the nation in economic
1515 development and electricity load growth; and
1616 WHEREAS, Natural gas and nuclear generation plants create
1717 reliable and affordable electricity for Texas families and
1818 businesses and provide nearly half of Texas' electricity generation
1919 overall; and
2020 WHEREAS, These reliable and affordable electricity supplies
2121 improve the quality of life for Texas families and are critical to
2222 making Texas the best state in America to locate businesses; and
2323 WHEREAS, The natural gas and nuclear generation plants
2424 directly employed 12,242 people in the state in 2024; and
2525 WHEREAS, The oil and gas industry in the state employed more
2626 than 492,000 Texans in 2024; and
2727 WHEREAS, Texas must preserve its existing nuclear and gas
2828 fleet and support the expansion of gas and nuclear in the state,
2929 including the development of new nuclear reactors; and
3030 WHEREAS, These goals are supported by Sections 45U, 45Y, and
3131 48E of the Internal Revenue Code, which provide federal tax support
3232 for new and existing nuclear technologies; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
3434 hereby respectfully urge the Congress of the United States to
3535 preserve Sections 45U, 45Y, and 48E of the Internal Revenue Code to
3636 support the preservation and expansion of America's nuclear fleet;
3737 and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official
3939 copies of this resolution to the president of the United States, to
4040 the president of the Senate and the speaker of the House of
4141 Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all the
4242 members of the Texas delegation to Congress with the request that
4343 this resolution be entered in the Congressional Record as a
4444 memorial to the Congress of the United States of America.
