77 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
88 WHEREAS, The city of Pearsall in Frio County has played an
99 important role in the power industry for decades by serving as home
1010 to numerous power line construction companies and their employees;
1111 and
1212 WHEREAS, Over the years, a large percentage of the local
1313 population has embarked on careers in the industry, and today,
1414 numerous area residents are employed as linemen; and
1515 WHEREAS, Pearsall's linemen help build, repair, and maintain
1616 the power lines that are essential to the electrical infrastructure
1717 that powers our state and nation; in the course of their duties,
1818 these accomplished professionals face difficult and dangerous
1919 circumstances on a daily basis and often travel across the country
2020 and even internationally to help restore power after hurricanes,
2121 tornadoes, and other disasters; they frequently perform their
2222 demanding tasks in severe environmental conditions, and they can
2323 spend long stretches of time away from home and family while
2424 completing their important work; and
2525 WHEREAS, Becoming a lineman is often a family tradition for
2626 residents of the Pearsall area; many of those working today have
2727 followed both a father and grandfather into the occupation, which
2828 requires a high level of training and extensive skill and
2929 expertise; and
3030 WHEREAS, The delivery of power is vital to the modern way of
3131 life, and the dedicated efforts of Pearsall's many line workers
3232 have benefited communities throughout Texas and far beyond; now,
3333 therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
3535 hereby designate Pearsall as the official Lineman Capital of Texas;
3636 and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
3838 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
3939 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
4040 passed by the legislature.
