14 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The ports of Texas serve as critical hubs and are |

15 | 20 | | directly impacted by the efficiency and security of the Panama |

16 | 21 | | Canal; and |

17 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Texas ports handle a substantial portion of U.S. |

18 | 23 | | exports, including energy products such as liquefied natural gas |

19 | 24 | | (LNG), crude oil, and refined petroleum, as well as agricultural |
---|
20 | 25 | | goods and manufactured products; and |
---|
21 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The economic prosperity of the State of Texas and |

22 | 27 | | the broader United States depends on the continued free flow of |
---|
23 | 28 | | goods through the Panama Canal to support supply chains, trade |
---|
24 | 29 | | agreements, and domestic industries; and |
---|
25 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Ensuring the security and stability of the Panama |
---|
26 | 31 | | Canal is essential for maintaining U.S. national security |
---|
27 | 32 | | interests, preventing disruptions of trade, and countering foreign |
---|
28 | 33 | | influence in the region; and |
---|
29 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Investments in Texas ports, infrastructure, and |
---|
30 | 35 | | trade partnerships reinforce the strategic position of the United |
---|
31 | 36 | | States as a global economic leader; now, therefore, be it |

32 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
33 | 38 | | hereby recognize the strategic importance of the Panama Canal to |

34 | 39 | | the economic strength of the United States and the State of Texas; |

36 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the Texas Legislature support continued |

37 | 42 | | investment in Texas ports and infrastructure to maximize the |

38 | 43 | | benefits of global trade and ensure long-term economic |

40 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the Texas Legislature urge the Trump |

41 | 46 | | Administration to prioritize diplomatic engagement with Panama to |

42 | 47 | | maintain the security, efficiency, and accessibility of the canal |

43 | 48 | | for U.S. commerce; and, be it further |

44 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That the Texas Legislature encourage policies that |
---|
45 | 50 | | enhance the ability of Texas industries to compete in global |
---|
46 | 51 | | markets through reliable and cost-effective shipping channels; |
---|
47 | 52 | | and, be it further |

48 | 53 | | RESOLVED, That the Texas Legislature call for collaboration |

49 | 54 | | between federal, state, and private sector stakeholders to |
---|
50 | 55 | | strengthen supply chain resilience and safeguard U.S. economic |

51 | 56 | | interests; and, be it further |

52 | 57 | | RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official |

53 | 58 | | copies of this resolution to the president of the United States, to |

54 | 59 | | the president of the Senate and the speaker of the House of |
---|
55 | 60 | | Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all the |
---|
56 | 61 | | members of the Texas delegation to Congress with the request that |

57 | 62 | | this resolution be entered in the Congressional Record as a |

58 | 63 | | memorial to the Congress of the United States of America. |
