77 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
88 WHEREAS, Pflugerville boasts an expansive trail network that
99 provides residents and visitors with ample opportunities for
1010 exercise, recreation, and social connection; and
1111 WHEREAS, Currently, Pflugerville maintains 56 miles of
1212 public trails within its city limits as well as an additional 15.2
1313 miles in its extraterritorial jurisdiction, totaling more than 71
1414 miles of accessible paths; an analysis by city staff has found that
1515 Pflugerville has more public trails per capita than any other city
1616 in the state, with 1.49 miles per 2,000 residents; moreover, an
1717 estimated 94.8 percent of its citizens live within a half mile of a
1818 trail, and 70 percent use the trails regularly; and
1919 WHEREAS, Pflugerville's trail network meets robust safety
2020 standards and features parking, lighting, and restrooms along major
2121 routes, ensuring a safe and convenient experience for trail users
2222 of all ages; in addition to facilitating access to green spaces, the
2323 trails serve as a hub for a wide variety of cultural activities,
2424 including community events, recreational programming, and public
2525 art installations; the pathways also help to reduce traffic
2626 congestion by connecting local neighborhoods, schools, and
2727 businesses; and
2828 WHEREAS, The trail network in Pflugerville has made the city
2929 a popular destination for Texans who enjoy active lifestyles, and
3030 the city is indeed deserving of special recognition for its
3131 steadfast commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of the
3232 community; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
3434 hereby designate Pflugerville as the official Trail Capital of
3535 Texas; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
3737 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
3838 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
3939 passed by the legislature.
