8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The State of Texas operates under a constitutional |
---|
9 | 9 | | mandate to maintain a balanced budget, a discipline that has |
---|
10 | 10 | | safeguarded the state's financial integrity and ensured that |
---|
11 | 11 | | taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, While Texas has demonstrated that fiscal discipline |
---|
13 | 13 | | and conservative budget practices lead to economic growth and |
---|
14 | 14 | | stability, the federal government has recklessly accumulated over |
---|
15 | 15 | | $33 trillion in national debt, with annual deficits that reflect |
---|
16 | 16 | | irresponsible spending and a dangerous disregard for future |
---|
17 | 17 | | generations; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Wasteful federal spending, bloated bureaucracies, |
---|
19 | 19 | | and a refusal to live within its means have not only burdened |
---|
20 | 20 | | American taxpayers but also threatened the nation's economic |
---|
21 | 21 | | security and its position as a global leader; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature, through prudent financial |
---|
23 | 23 | | stewardship, invests in critical priorities such as |
---|
24 | 24 | | infrastructure, public safety, and education without resorting to |
---|
25 | 25 | | massive deficits or mortgaging the future of its citizens; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The federal government's failure to balance its |
---|
27 | 27 | | budget undermines the principles of accountability and fiscal |
---|
28 | 28 | | conservatism, principles that Texans demand and deserve from all |
---|
29 | 29 | | levels of government; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, The Texas model of conservative governance and |
---|
31 | 31 | | fiscal responsibility offers a clear and proven example for the |
---|
32 | 32 | | federal government to follow in order to restore public trust and |
---|
33 | 33 | | ensure long-term economic prosperity; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
35 | 35 | | hereby urge Congress to enact a balanced budget requirement to end |
---|
36 | 36 | | the cycle of deficits and debt; and, be it further |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Texas Legislature condemn the reckless and |
---|
38 | 38 | | wasteful spending practices of the federal government; and, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | further |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official |
---|
41 | 41 | | copies of this resolution to the president of the United States, to |
---|
42 | 42 | | the president of the Senate and the speaker of the House of |
---|
43 | 43 | | Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all the |
---|
44 | 44 | | members of the Texas delegation to Congress with the request that |
---|
45 | 45 | | this resolution be entered in the Congressional Record as a |
---|
46 | 46 | | memorial to the Congress of the United States of America. |
