| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Port Aransas, situated on Mustang Island along the |

| 9 | 9 | | Texas Gulf Coast, has long been recognized as one of Texas' premier |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | locations for fishing, attracting anglers from across the state and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | beyond; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Boasting a diverse marine ecosystem, the waters |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | surrounding the island offer opportunities to catch red snapper, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | redfish, flounder, tarpon, marlin, tuna, and other prized species; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | moreover, the area is optimal for deep-sea, bay, and pier fishing, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | providing enthusiasts with a range of options; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Port Aransas hosts a number of prestigious fishing |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | tournaments, including the Texas Legends Billfish Tournament, the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Texas Women Anglers Tournament, and the Deep Sea Roundup, which is |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | renowned as the oldest fishing competition on the Texas coast; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The city is home to a thriving fishing industry that |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | encompasses guided charter services, bait and tackle shops, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | marinas, and other businesses, all of which contribute |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | significantly to the local and state economy; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and local |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | conservation groups have worked diligently to preserve and maintain |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the natural fisheries of the area, ensuring that future generations |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | can continue to enjoy world-class fishing in Port Aransas; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The residents of Port Aransas have demonstrated an |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | unwavering commitment to the promotion, preservation, and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | enhancement of the area's fishing opportunities, and their efforts, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | along with the abundant coastal waters, have made the city a beloved |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | fishing destination for a multitude of Texans and visitors alike; |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | hereby designate Port Aransas as the official Fishing Capital of |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Texas; and, be it further |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Section 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | effect until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | finally passed by the legislature. |
