77 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
88 WHEREAS, The Gulf Coast Protection District is essential to
99 accomplish the purposes of Section 59, Article XVI, Texas
1010 Constitution, and for protecting the coast in Chambers, Galveston,
1111 Harris, Jefferson, and Orange Counties and territory annexed to the
1212 district; and
1313 WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature has authorized the Gulf Coast
1414 Protection District, in fulfilling its duties, to manage coastal
1515 barriers, improve seawalls, establish environmental mitigation
1616 facilities, and provide interior drainage remediation to the
1717 region; and
1818 WHEREAS, In establishing and managing these projects, the
1919 Gulf Coast Protection District should prioritize the safety and
2020 continued economic activity of the region; now, therefore, be it
2121 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
2222 hereby urge the Gulf Coast Protection District and the U.S. Army
2323 Corps of Engineers to not compromise navigation safety or two-way
2424 traffic vessel movement when implementing a project authorized by
2525 the legislature under Section 9502.0301(a), Special District Local
2626 Laws Code; and, be it further
2727 RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward an
2828 official copy of this resolution to the Gulf Coast Protection
2929 District and to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
