9+ SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
810 proposing a constitutional amendment prohibiting the use of state
911 funds to pay for the obligations of a local public retirement
1012 system.
1113 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1214 SECTION 1. Section 67, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is
1315 amended by adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows:
1416 (c-1) This state is not liable for any debts or other
1517 obligations of a retirement system described by Subsection (c) of
1618 this section. The legislature may not appropriate money to a
1719 retirement system described by Subsection (c) of this section to
1820 pay any debts or other obligations of the retirement system.
1921 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2022 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025.
2123 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2224 proposition: "The constitutional amendment prohibiting the
2325 legislature from appropriating state money to a local public
2426 retirement system to pay any debts or other obligations of the
2527 retirement system."
