77 A JOINT RESOLUTION
88 proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing a statewide
99 referendum allowing voters to indicate a preference for observing
1010 standard time year-round or observing daylight saving time
1111 year-round.
1212 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1414 adding Section 74 to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 74. (a) The legislature by general law may:
1616 (1) hold a statewide referendum that allows the voters
1717 to indicate a preference for either:
1818 (A) observing standard time year-round; or
1919 (B) observing daylight saving time year-round;
2020 and
2121 (2) enact a law based on the results of the referendum
2222 providing for observing standard time year-round or observing
2323 daylight saving time year-round.
2424 (b) A statewide referendum described by Subsection (a) of
2525 this section that is held on the same day as the election on the
2626 constitutional amendment to add this section to this article is
2727 hereby validated.
2828 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2929 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025.
3030 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
3131 proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the state
3232 to conduct a statewide referendum to allow the voters to choose
3333 between observing standard time year-round and observing daylight
3434 saving time year-round and authorizing the legislature to enact
3535 legislation that gives effect to the option preferred by a majority
3636 of the voters voting in the statewide referendum."
