77 A JOINT RESOLUTION
88 proposing a constitutional amendment to authorize the legislature
99 to exempt from ad valorem taxation certain perishable inventory
1010 held for sale at retail.
1111 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1313 adding Section 1-v to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 1-v. (a) The legislature by general law may exempt
1515 from ad valorem taxation the total appraised value of the tangible
1616 personal property a person owns that consists of perishable
1717 inventory held for sale by the person at retail.
1818 (b) The legislature by general law may define "perishable
1919 inventory" for the purpose of this section, which may include
2020 prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and dietary
2121 supplements.
2222 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2323 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025.
2424 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2525 proposition: "The constitutional amendment to authorize the
2626 legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation certain perishable
2727 inventory held for sale at retail."
