2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		join Tarleton State University in celebrating 125 years of
4	10		excellence in higher education; and
5	11		WHEREAS, Tarleton State University was established in
6	12		Stephenville in 1899 as John Tarleton College; the school joined
7	13		The Texas A&M University System in 1917, and the institution's
8	14		name changed throughout the years before it became known as
9	15		Tarleton State University in 1973; and
10	16		WHEREAS, Today, the university serves around 18,000 students
11	17		online and at its campuses in Stephenville, Bryan, Fort Worth, and
12	18		Waco; students benefit from a broad range of activities and
13	19		organizations, NCAA Division I athletic programs, and one of the
14	20		nation's largest and winningest rodeo programs; and
15	21		WHEREAS, Preparing students for future success in their
16	22		chosen fields is key to building a brighter future for all
17	23		Texans, and Tarleton State University is indeed deserving of
18	24		special recognition for its growth in enrollment, research,
19	25		scholarship, athletics, and philanthropy and for the outstanding
20	26		achievements of its students and faculty; now, therefore, be it
21	27		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
22	28		Legislature, hereby commend the administrators, faculty, and
23	29		staff of Tarleton State University for their invaluable
24	30		contributions to higher education in the Lone Star State and
25	31		extend to all best wishes for a memorable 125th anniversary
26	32		celebration; and, be it further
27	33		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
28	34		the university as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
