28 WHEREAS, Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month is being
39 observed in March 2025 to focus attention on hemophilia and other
410 hereditary bleeding disorders that impact the lives of some three
511 million Americans; and
6- WHEREAS, Bleeding disorders are characterized by the
7- body's inability to form proper blood clots, which occurs due to
8- defects in platelets, clotting proteins, or blood vessels;
9- although these diseases are almost always inherited, in rare
10- cases, they may develop later in life when the body develops an
11- autoimmune response to the blood's natural clotting factors; and
12+ WHEREAS, Bleeding disorders are characterized by the body's
13+ inability to form proper blood clots, which occurs due to defects in
14+ platelets, clotting proteins, or blood vessels; although these
15+ diseases are almost always inherited, in rare cases, they may
16+ develop later in life when the body develops an autoimmune response
17+ to the blood's natural clotting factors; and
1218 WHEREAS, When the normal clotting process is diminished,
1319 patients may experience problems with bleeding excessively from
1420 relatively minor injuries; other symptoms can include easy
1521 bruising, unexplained nosebleeds, and anemia; if not treated
1622 effectively, bleeding disorders can be fatal; and
1723 WHEREAS, Hemophilia Awareness Month was first designated
1824 federally in March 1986; three decades later, in March 2016, the
19- Department of Health and Human Services expanded the observance
20- to include other bleeding disorders, such as von Willebrand
21- disease; and
25+ Department of Health and Human Services expanded the observance to
26+ include other bleeding disorders, such as von Willebrand disease;
27+ and
2228 WHEREAS, Bleeding disorders are life-changing and
2329 potentially deadly conditions, and Bleeding Disorders Awareness
24- Month serves as a means of rallying support for vital research
25- and resources that can help improve the outlook for those living
26- with these diseases; now, therefore, be it
27- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
28- Legislature, hereby recognize March 2025 as Bleeding Disorders
29- Awareness Month and encourage all Texans to learn more about
30- bleeding disorders.
