8+ WHEREAS, Proud residents of Kaufman County are gathering in
9+ Austin on February 18, 2025, to celebrate Kaufman County Day at the
10+ State Capitol; and
511 WHEREAS, Situated in the fertile blackland prairie of
612 Northeast Texas, Kaufman County was home to Cherokee and Caddo
713 Indians when settlers arrived in 1840 and established a community
814 that became known as Kingsboro; and
9- WHEREAS, In 1848, Kaufman County was carved out of
10- Henderson County and named in honor of David Spangler Kaufman, a
11- member of the Texas Legislature and the United States Congress;
12- three years later, the settlement of Kingsboro became the county
13- seat and took the new name of Kaufman; and

17- the Porter Farm near Terrell, the Spellman Museum of Forney
18- History, the Kaufman County Veterans Memorial Park and Vietnam
19- Memorial Wall, the Terrell Heritage Museum, and the No. 1 British
20- Flying Training School Museum in Terrell; and
21+ Kaufman County Poor Farm, which was established in 1883 to provide

24- unique contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be

26- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
27- Legislature, hereby recognize February 18, 2025, as Kaufman
28- County Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the
29- visiting delegation.
