28 WHEREAS, Students, faculty, and staff of the Texas Tech
39 University Health Sciences Center are convening at the State
4- Capitol on February 26, 2025, to celebrate the university's
5- legacy of advancing rural health care, education, and research in
6- Texas; and
7- WHEREAS, Established in 1969 as Texas Tech University
8- School of Medicine, the institution was renamed Texas Tech
9- University Health Sciences Center in 1979, and it has become a
10- comprehensive health research institution; throughout its
11- history, it has been a leader in addressing rural health care
12- challenges across the State of Texas; and

13+ WHEREAS, Established in 1969 as Texas Tech University School
14+ of Medicine, the institution was renamed Texas Tech University

17+ leader in addressing rural health care challenges across the State
18+ of Texas; and
1319 WHEREAS, TTUHSC remains committed to its foundational
1420 mission of serving the health care needs of the predominantly
1521 underserved West Texas region, which encompasses 121 counties
16- representing 35 percent of the state's population and 54 percent
17- of its land mass; the university continues to expand access to
18- care through innovative models that benefit communities across
19- Texas; and

2026 WHEREAS, This esteemed institution provides top-quality

24- institution is composed of six distinguished schools, the School
25- of Medicine, the School of Nursing, the School of Health
26- Professions, the Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy, the Graduate
27- School of Biomedical Sciences, and the Julia Jones Matthews
28- School of Population and Public Health, with locations in
29- Abilene, Amarillo, Dallas, Lubbock, Midland, and Odessa; and
30- WHEREAS, Nationally recognized for its innovative
31- programs, academic achievements, and cutting-edge research,
32- TTUHSC also offers a variety of community-based services, many of
33- which have become statewide models for addressing the unique
34- challenges of rural health care; the university has also
35- pioneered the use of telehealth and other technologies to reach
36- underserved areas; and

41- and drive medical discovery; now, therefore, be it
42- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
43- Legislature, hereby honor the Texas Tech University Health
44- Sciences Center for its contributions to rural health care,
45- education, and research and extend to all those affiliated with
46- the institution sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
47- be it further
44+ graduated generations of future health care professionals who have
45+ gone on to make tangible, life-changing impacts on patients and
46+ drive medical discovery; now, therefore, be it
47+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
48+ hereby honor the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for
49+ its contributions to rural health care, education, and research and
50+ extend to all those affiliated with the institution sincere best
51+ wishes for continued success; and, be it further
