8+ WHEREAS, Memorial Park marked its 100th anniversary in 2024,
9+ providing a welcome opportunity to pay tribute to the rich legacy of
10+ Houston's largest urban wilderness and recreational green space;
11+ and
612 WHEREAS, In 1924, Will and Mike Hogg, with minority owner
713 Henry Stude, purchased two tracts of land that had previously
814 served as the Camp Logan training base during World War I and sold
9- the acreage at cost to the City of Houston; in May of that year,
10- the city officially established Memorial Park in honor of the
11- soldiers who trained at the camp and fought in the war;
12- conservationist Ima Hogg, the sister of Will and Mike Hogg,
13- served for half a century as guardian of the park, playing an
14- instrumental role in saving it from a number of potential
15- encroachments; and

24- cultural history; moreover, the organization has helped
25- formulate and carry out the Memorial Park Master Plan in
26- partnership with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department,
27- Kinder Foundation, and Uptown Development Authority, delivering
28- transformational capital improvements, the restoration of the
29- park's ecological systems, and an operations and maintenance
