8+ WHEREAS, Deputy Jesus "Jesse" Vargas of the Brazoria County
9+ Sheriff's Office was killed in the line of duty on January 15, 2025,
10+ at the age of 41, and his untimely passing is a tragic loss to his
11+ family, to his fellow officers, and to the residents of his
12+ community; and
1013 WHEREAS, Born on April 28, 1983, to Felix and Genoveva
1114 Vargas, Jesse Vargas grew up with the companionship of his seven
1215 siblings, Francisco, Guadalupe, Marisol, Felix, Eduardo, Benito,
13- and Susanna; he went on to exchange wedding vows with Digna
14- Emerita Bonilla, and the couple were blessed with three
15- daughters, Josephine, Breanna, and Sofia; he was also a beloved
16- uncle to many nieces and nephews; and

20- and off the job, and his compassion and devotion to duty left a
21- lasting impression on his colleagues and fellow citizens alike;
22- and
23- WHEREAS, Deputy Jesse Vargas was a courageous and caring
24- law enforcement officer who embodied the highest ideals of his

22+ he was a pillar of support to those around him, both on and off the
23+ job, and his compassion and devotion to duty left a lasting
24+ impression on his colleagues and fellow citizens alike; and

27- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
28- Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jesus "Jesse" Vargas
29- and extend deepest condolences to all those who mourn his passing: to
30- his wife, Digna Emerita Bonilla; to his daughters, Josephine Marie
31- Vargas, Breanna Emerita Vargas, and Sofia Isabelle Vargas; to his
32- parents, Felix Vargas Sr. and Genoveva Vargas; to his siblings,
33- Francisco Vargas, Guadalupe Vargas and her husband, Rafael Cruz,
34- Marisol Vargas Gamboa and her husband, Ruben, Felix Vargas Jr. and his
35- wife, Cindy, Eduardo Vargas and his wife, Francine, Benito Vargas and
36- his wife, Crystal, and Susanna Cabrera and her husband, Luis; to his
37- mother-in-law, Anna Bonilla; to his sisters-in-law, Susana Celestino
38- and her husband, Jose, and Emily Cruz and her husband, Alberto; to his
39- law enforcement partner of six years, Chase Grupe; and to his other
40- relatives, his friends, and his brothers and sisters in blue; and, be

29+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
30+ hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jesus "Jesse" Vargas and extend
31+ deepest condolences to all those who mourn his passing: to his wife,
