28 WHEREAS, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is
39 observed on January 27, provides an important opportunity to pay
410 tribute to those who perished in the Holocaust and to those who
511 survived the atrocities committed by the German Nazi regime; and
6- WHEREAS, January 27, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of
7- the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau German Nazi
8- concentration and death camp in 1945; the United Nations General
9- Assembly declared January 27 as International Holocaust
10- Remembrance Day in 2005 in honor of the six million Jewish
11- victims of the Holocaust during World War II and the millions of
12- other victims of Nazi persecution; the organization has chosen
13- "Holocaust Remembrance and Education for Dignity and Human
14- Rights" as the theme for the 2025 observance; and
12+ WHEREAS, January 27, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of the
13+ liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau German Nazi concentration and
14+ death camp in 1945; the United Nations General Assembly declared
15+ January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day in 2005 in
16+ honor of the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust during
17+ World War II and the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution;
18+ the organization has chosen "Holocaust Remembrance and Education
19+ for Dignity and Human Rights" as the theme for the 2025 observance;
20+ and
1521 WHEREAS, Antisemitism and violence against Jewish people
16- remain serious threats in our society; in 2023, the
17- Anti-Defamation League tabulated nearly 9,000 antisemitic
18- incidents across the United States; the ADL recently published a
19- report finding that according to a global survey almost half of
20- the world's adult population, an estimated 2.2 billion people,
21- harbor deeply entrenched antisemitic attitudes; the survey also
22- found that 20 percent of respondents worldwide have not heard
23- about the Holocaust; and
24- WHEREAS, Through a deeper understanding of one of the
25- darkest chapters in history, we can be better prepared to stand
26- ever vigilant against the forces of prejudice and hatred, and the
