7+ SENATE RESOLUTION
28 WHEREAS, Longhorns and Aggies are uniting at the State
39 Capitol on February 26, 2025, to celebrate The University of
410 Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University with Orange and Maroon
5- Legislative Day, a day when the state's two largest
6- universities work together to promote higher education in the
7- State of Texas; and
11+ Legislative Day, a day when the state's two largest universities
12+ work together to promote higher education in the State of Texas;
13+ and
814 WHEREAS, Alumni from the two institutions total more than
915 1.17 million, and The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M
1016 University had a combined enrollment of nearly 133,000 students
1117 in the fall of 2024, with nearly 35,000 students receiving
1218 degrees that year; the schools boast superb museums and
1319 libraries, including the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library
1420 and Museum and the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library and
1521 Museum, and both universities are renowned for their exceptional
1622 research, with combined annual research expenditures of more
1723 than $2.3 billion; and
1824 WHEREAS, The teaching and research missions of The
1925 University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University benefit
2026 the State of Texas through the cultivation of informed and
2127 engaged citizens, and they drive economic prosperity through
2228 technological innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, improved
2329 health care, and scientific breakthroughs; and
2430 WHEREAS, Researchers from The University of Texas at
2531 Austin and Texas A&M University explore, discover, and innovate
2632 in the sciences, arts, and humanities and have been granted
2733 numerous patents; as Tier One research institutions, both
2834 universities provide students valuable opportunities for applied
2935 learning with guidance from outstanding faculty across the
3036 disciplines, and both universities broaden access to higher
3137 education for underserved populations; and
3238 WHEREAS, Both universities serve as important cultural
3339 centers that engage Texans in the visual and performing arts and
3440 other creative endeavors; the schools promote athletics and
3541 physical education and inspire Texans to stay active and join
3642 together in support of student athletes; and
3743 WHEREAS, The combined faculties feature Nobel laureates
3844 and more than 100 National Academy members, and those attending
3945 the schools include National Merit scholars, Rhodes scholars,
4046 Olympic gold medalists, and many of the Lone Star State's most
4147 outstanding students; in addition, the two universities offer an
4248 amazing range of postgraduate opportunities with more than 350
4349 graduate degree programs; and
4450 WHEREAS, The two universities have proven records of
45- support for our nation's military; the schools have
46- commissioned tens of thousands of uniformed officers
47- throughout their storied histories and enroll hundreds of
48- veterans each semester, establishing their commitment to
49- providing new opportunities to our nation's bravest in
50- supportive, military-friendly environments; and

5561 exceptional state university systems; now, therefore, be it
5662 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
5763 Legislature, hereby recognize February 26, 2025, as Orange and
5864 Maroon Legislative Day and commend students and alumni from The
5965 University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University for their
6066 commitment to supporting higher education in the Lone Star State.
