58 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
6- meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and
7- friends of Michael Shannon Ewing of Austin, who passed away on
8- January 18, 2025, at the age of 55; and

912 WHEREAS, The son of Frank Irwin Ewing and Colleen Shannon
10- Ewing, Mike Ewing was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 17,
11- 1969, and grew up with the company of his beloved sister, Anne; he

1215 graduated from Wesleyan University and the University of Houston
13- Law Center, where he was a dynamic member of the editorial board
14- of the Houston Journal of International Law; and
15- WHEREAS, After moving to Austin to work for Apple,
16- Mr. Ewing embarked on an exemplary career in public service; from
17- 2004 to 2008, he was employed in the legal division of the Texas
18- Legislative Council, and he went on to join the government
19- affairs office of the Employees Retirement System of Texas; known
20- for his diligence, skill, and keen intellect, he took on daunting
21- tasks with focused energy; one memorable example occurred when
22- legislators requested a plan to revamp state retirement
23- procedures, and he produced a detailed draft over the course of a
24- single weekend; and
25- WHEREAS, Mr. Ewing formed many lasting friendships among
26- his colleagues and other acquaintances; he enjoyed thoughtful

33- demonstrated his knowledge and quick wit as a contestant on
34- Jeopardy!; in addition, he regularly participated in trivia
35- gatherings with a group that included other former Jeopardy!
36- contestants; while loyal to his Ohio roots, he was a proud
37- Austinite and great fan of Austin FC soccer, The University of
38- Texas at Austin football team, and Formula 1 racing; above all,
39- he loved spending time with those he cared about, and he was
40- deeply devoted to his sister and her children; and

44- curiosity, his wonderfully dry sense of humor, and his
45- enduring warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be it
46- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
47- Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Michael Shannon
48- Ewing and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
49- family: to his sister, Anne Cole, and her husband, Chris; to his
50- nieces, Roxy and Meg; and to his other relatives and many
51- friends; and, be it further
43+ sorrow to all those who had the good fortune to know him, they will
44+ forever treasure their memories of his irrepressible curiosity, his
45+ wonderfully dry sense of humor, and his enduring warmth and
46+ kindness; now, therefore, be it
47+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
48+ hereby pay tribute to the life of Michael Shannon Ewing and extend
49+ sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his sister,
50+ Anne Cole, and her husband, Chris; to his nieces, Roxy and Meg; and
51+ to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
5252 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
53- prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
54- this day, it do so in memory of Mike Ewing.
