6 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of |

7 | 13 | | cancer-related deaths in the United States; a number of |

8 | 14 | | hereditary and preexisting health conditions can increase a |
---|
9 | 15 | | person's chance of developing this type of cancer, and early and |
---|
10 | 16 | | routine screening has proven to detect abnormalities and address |
---|
11 | 17 | | related issues effectively; and |
---|
12 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Screening can help gastroenterologists identify |
---|
13 | 19 | | precancerous polyps when they are in a more treatable stage and |
---|
14 | 20 | | before they become cancerous; medical professionals also strive |
---|
15 | 21 | | to promote awareness and prevention by recommending certain |
---|
16 | 22 | | lifestyle practices that have been shown to reduce risk and help |
---|
17 | 23 | | protect against this disease; and |
---|
18 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Among the organizations working to increase |
---|
19 | 25 | | prevention and improve the care of patients with colorectal |
---|
20 | 26 | | cancer is the Texas Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, a |
---|
21 | 27 | | statewide professional association dedicated to providing |
---|
22 | 28 | | high-quality medical education and advocating on behalf of |
---|
23 | 29 | | patients and health care providers; this exemplary group has |
---|
24 | 30 | | helped to enhance patient care by supporting the successful |
---|
25 | 31 | | passage of a statewide colorectal cancer screening mandate and by |
---|
26 | 32 | | creating the Colorectal Cancer Treatment Initiative to increase |
---|
27 | 33 | | access to preventive measures for underserved Texans; and |
---|
28 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Society of Gastroenterology |
---|
29 | 35 | | and Endoscopy are gathering at the State Capitol on March 4, |
---|
30 | 36 | | 2025, for a day of legislative advocacy and to demonstrate their |
---|
31 | 37 | | support for policies that advance innovations in digestive |
---|
32 | 38 | | health sciences and ensure all Texans have access to lifesaving |
---|
33 | 39 | | cancer screenings; the members of the society and all those |
---|
34 | 40 | | taking part in this worthwhile endeavor are truly deserving of |
---|
35 | 41 | | special recognition for their contributions to the improvement |
---|
36 | 42 | | of health care in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

37 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |

38 | 44 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March of 2025 as Colorectal Cancer |

39 | 45 | | Awareness Month and commend the members of the Texas Society of |

40 | 46 | | Gastroenterology and Endoscopy for their exemplary efforts on |

41 | 47 | | behalf of patients and medical workers in Texas and across the |
