7+ SENATE RESOLUTION
28 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
39 join the Texas Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy and
410 health care professionals nationwide in observing March of 2025
511 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month; and
612 WHEREAS, Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of
713 cancer-related deaths in the United States; a number of
814 hereditary and preexisting health conditions can increase a
915 person's chance of developing this type of cancer, and early and
1016 routine screening has proven to detect abnormalities and address
1117 related issues effectively; and
1218 WHEREAS, Screening can help gastroenterologists identify
1319 precancerous polyps when they are in a more treatable stage and
1420 before they become cancerous; medical professionals also strive
1521 to promote awareness and prevention by recommending certain
1622 lifestyle practices that have been shown to reduce risk and help
1723 protect against this disease; and
1824 WHEREAS, Among the organizations working to increase
1925 prevention and improve the care of patients with colorectal
2026 cancer is the Texas Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, a
2127 statewide professional association dedicated to providing
2228 high-quality medical education and advocating on behalf of
2329 patients and health care providers; this exemplary group has
2430 helped to enhance patient care by supporting the successful
2531 passage of a statewide colorectal cancer screening mandate and by
2632 creating the Colorectal Cancer Treatment Initiative to increase
2733 access to preventive measures for underserved Texans; and
2834 WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Society of Gastroenterology
2935 and Endoscopy are gathering at the State Capitol on March 4,
3036 2025, for a day of legislative advocacy and to demonstrate their
3137 support for policies that advance innovations in digestive
3238 health sciences and ensure all Texans have access to lifesaving
3339 cancer screenings; the members of the society and all those
3440 taking part in this worthwhile endeavor are truly deserving of
3541 special recognition for their contributions to the improvement
3642 of health care in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
3743 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
3844 Legislature, hereby recognize March of 2025 as Colorectal Cancer
3945 Awareness Month and commend the members of the Texas Society of
4046 Gastroenterology and Endoscopy for their exemplary efforts on
4147 behalf of patients and medical workers in Texas and across the
4248 nation; and, be it further
4349 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4450 the organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas
4551 Senate.
