6+ SENATE RESOLUTION
27 WHEREAS, Citizens from the Town of Pecos City and Reeves
38 County are traveling to Austin for Town of Pecos City and Reeves
49 County Day at the State Capitol on March 5, 2025; and
510 WHEREAS, Situated in the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas,
611 the area that encompasses Reeves County was first inhabited in
712 prehistoric times and later by the Jumano and Mescalero Apache
813 peoples as well as farmers of Mexican descent; Anglo settlers
914 were drawn to the region's farming and ranching opportunities in
1015 the 1870s, and the arrival of the Texas and Pacific Railway in
1116 1881 contributed to the area's growth and development; after
1217 separating from Pecos County, Reeves County was founded in 1884,
1318 and by the end of the century, its population numbered more than
1419 1,200; its county seat, Pecos, was first established as a camp
1520 for cattle drives traveling up the Pecos River before becoming
1621 the site of a rail station; and
1722 WHEREAS, Today, nearly 12,000 people call Reeves County
18- home, with almost 10,000 of those residents living in Pecos;
19- the region's economy benefits from the ranching, agricultural,
23+ home, with almost 10,000 of those residents living in Pecos; the
24+ region's economy benefits from the ranching, agricultural,
2025 construction, and retail industries, and its location in the
21- Permian Basin makes it a prime center for oil and gas
22- production; in the spirit of collaboration, the city and county
23- have formed an advisory committee that supports workforce and
24- economic development, infrastructure, and special projects in
25- the region; and
26- WHEREAS, Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the world's
27- largest spring-fed swimming pool at Balmorhea State Park and
28- immerse themselves in West Texas history at the West of the Pecos
29- Museum; the area is also known for the West of the Pecos Rodeo,
30- which has operated since 1883 and is one of the world's first
31- rodeos; and

36- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
37- Legislature, hereby recognize March 5, 2025, as Town of Pecos
38- City and Reeves County Day at the State Capitol and extend to the
39- visiting delegation sincere best wishes for a meaningful and
40- memorable stay in Austin.
