28 WHEREAS, Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas is
39 celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025; and
4- WHEREAS, The roots of Methodist Healthcare Ministries
5- trace back to 1955, when the Southwest Conference of The United
6- Methodist Church approved the formation of a nonprofit to own and
7- operate hospitals in the name of the church; opening in 1963, the
8- Southwest Methodist Hospital sought to promote and deliver
9- accessible, quality health care to the underserved, and
10- Methodist Healthcare Ministries has continued to advance this
11- mission since its establishment in 1995; today, the Methodist
12- Healthcare System serves as the largest health care provider in
13- San Antonio and 26 surrounding counties and oversees operations
14- at numerous specialized area hospitals; and
10+ WHEREAS, The roots of Methodist Healthcare Ministries trace

1521 WHEREAS, Methodist Healthcare Ministries offers primary
1622 medical and dental care as well as counseling, case management,
1723 social services, family wellness, and church-based community
1824 nursing programs to patients across 74 counties; the nonprofit
1925 organization also oversees grant-making and policy initiatives,
2026 and it has worked with more than 150 funding partners to ensure
2127 affordable services to all; together, they have invested over
22- $82 million in community grants, strategic initiatives, and
23- policy and advocacy partnerships in an effort to increase access
24- to care and to improve food security, digital inclusion, and
25- economic mobility; one impressive example is the collaboration
26- between Methodist Healthcare Ministries and the San Antonio
27- Metro Health Department to launch the Healthy Corner Store
28- initiative, which provides fresh and affordable produce to
29- communities in food deserts; in addition, the nonprofit
30- established the Medical-Legal Partnership to address the
31- health-related legal needs of patients; and
32- WHEREAS, In recognition of its exemplary business
33- practices, Methodist Healthcare Ministries received a 2024
34- Governor's Texas Award for Performance Excellence from the
35- Quality Texas Foundation Regional Program, and it was one of only
36- two organizations that earned this accolade that year; with this
37- honor, it was commended for its leadership, strategic planning,
38- measurement, analysis and knowledge management, results, and
39- focus on its customers, workforce and operations; and
40- WHEREAS, Methodist Healthcare Ministries has provided
41- expert and compassionate care to countless men, women, and
42- children in San Antonio and beyond, and the members of its
43- medical, support, and administrative staff may indeed take great
44- pride in its outstanding record of service over the past three
45- decades; now, therefore, be it
46- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
47- Legislature, hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of
48- Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas and extend to all
49- those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for
50- the future; and, be it further
