8+ WHEREAS, The University of Houston-Clear Lake celebrated the
9+ 50th anniversary of its founding in 2024; and
410 WHEREAS, In 1971, the Texas Legislature authorized the
5- establishment of a second University of Houston campus to serve
6- the growing Clear Lake area, and by September 1974, nearly 1,100
11+ establishment of a second University of Houston campus to serve the

713 students and 60 faculty members had begun classes at an off-site
814 location while waiting for construction to be completed; in the
9- ensuing decades, UHCL experienced significant growth; initially
10- a graduate and upper-division branch of UH, the Clear Lake campus
11- welcomed its first freshman and sophomore students in 2014, and
12- it has recently added a number of new facilities, including the
13- STEM and Classroom Building, the Recreation and Wellness Center,
14- and the Hunter Residence Hall; in 2010, the UHCL at Pearland
15- campus was established, and in 2019, its nearly
16- 70,000-square-foot Health Sciences and Classroom Building was
17- opened; and
18- WHEREAS, Today, UHCL serves a diverse population of more
19- than 7,700 students and offers over 90 undergraduate and graduate
20- degree programs across its 4 colleges, as well as 3 doctoral
21- programs in educational leadership, curriculum and instruction,
22- and health service psychology; the university is home to many
23- specialized institutes and centers that reflect its commitment
24- to community service, such as the Environmental Institute of
25- Houston, the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities,
26- and the Center for Educational Programs, and it has become an
27- arts and entertainment destination, hosting a variety of
28- exhibitions in the Art Gallery and multi-genre performances in
29- the Bayou Theater; among its many achievements, UHCL has been
30- cited five times on the President's Higher Education Community
31- Service Honor Roll, and it has been designated as a
32- Hispanic-Serving Institution; and

36- it has contributed significantly to the prosperity and vitality
37- of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
38- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
39- Legislature, hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the
40- University of Houston-Clear Lake and extend to all those
41- associated with the institution sincere best wishes for the
42- future; and, be it further
38+ University of Houston-Clear Lake has provided generations of Texans
39+ with a strong foundation for achievement, and in so doing, it has
40+ contributed significantly to the prosperity and vitality of the
41+ Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
42+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
43+ hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the University of

45+ institution sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4346 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
44- prepared for UHCL as an expression of high regard from the
