8+ WHEREAS, Proud residents of Galveston County are gathering in
9+ Austin on March 6, 2025, to celebrate Galveston County Day at the
10+ State Capitol; and
511 WHEREAS, Covering approximately 870 square miles of lush
612 grasslands, warm beaches, and sparkling waters, Galveston County
713 was first inhabited by the Karankawa people and later, several
8- Spanish expeditions passed through the area; the county was
9- formed out of portions of Harrisburg, Liberty, and Brazoria
10- Counties in 1838 and named after Bernardo de Gálvez, who
11- supported the United States in the Revolutionary War; and

20- lives were lost; in the wake of the storm, the Galveston seawall
21- was constructed; and

4046 boat parade at the Kemah Boardwalk; other points of interest
4147 include the Strand Historic District, Schlitterbahn Waterpark, the
4248 Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, and Moody Gardens; and
4349 WHEREAS, Galveston County is blessed with a rich history and
4450 abundant natural resources, and its citizens may take great pride
4551 in their continuing contributions to the story of the Lone Star
4652 State; now, therefore, be it
47- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
48- Legislature, hereby recognize March 6, 2025, as Galveston County
49- Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
50- delegation.
