2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize the residents of Sullivan City who are gathering in
4	10		Austin on March 6, 2025, to celebrate Sullivan City Day at the
5	11		State Capitol; and
6	12		WHEREAS, Founded in 1908, Sullivan City is located along
7		-	the Rio Grande in southwestern Hidalgo County; the city was ~~named~~
8		-	in honor of Captain Ed Sullivan, who owned a ranch in the ~~area~~
9		-	that later became a loading station on the Missouri Pacific

10	16		Railroad; at the end of the 20th century, the town's population

12	18		WHEREAS, Today, Sullivan City is home to nearly 4,000
13	19		residents, and its economy benefits from educational, health
14	20		care, and retail services; neighboring communities include
15	21		Harlingen, McAllen, and Reynosa, Mexico, and residents and
16	22		visitors alike enjoy such nearby attractions as the National
17	23		Butterfly Center, the McAllen Heritage Center, and the Fordyce
18	24		Nature Trails; and
19	25		WHEREAS, The community is ably led by its city council,
20	26		which includes mayor Alma Dalia Salinas, mayor pro tem Ramon
21	27		Moreno, and members Rene Peña, Nicholas Cerda, and Ruben
22	28		Villalon, as well as city manager Richard Ozuna; and
23	29		WHEREAS, The citizens of Sullivan City are working to
24	30		preserve the best of their past while building a future of
25	31		expanding opportunity, and it is indeed fitting to honor them for
26	32		their unique contributions to the Lone Star State; now,
27	33		therefore, be it
28	34		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
29	35		Legislature, hereby recognize March 6, 2025, as Sullivan City Day
30	36		at the Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
31	37		delegation; and, be it further
32	38		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
33	39		the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
