7+ SENATE RESOLUTION
28 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
39 recognize First Pentecostal Church of Silsbee on the grand
410 occasion of its 100th anniversary, which is being celebrated
511 March 9, 2025; and
612 WHEREAS, The sanctuary of First Pentecostal Church is
713 located on the site of Old Town, where Henry Mark Blackmon and
814 Albert McKinney first gathered with members of the community to
915 hold Bible studies and prayer meetings beginning in 1925; as the
1016 group grew, Mr. Blackmon purchased land and began constructing
1117 the church's first building, which began holding church services
1218 in 1927; and
1319 WHEREAS, Under the guidance and wise stewardship of its
1420 former pastors and the outstanding leadership of its current
1521 pastor, Rev. James Homer Looper, First Pentecostal Church has
1622 ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs of countless
1723 Christians and has continued to play a vital role in the Silsbee
1824 community; and
1925 WHEREAS, The church has endured many challenges and
2026 transitions since it was first organized; the addition of a
2127 gymnasium and housing for elderly members in 1988 served as a
2228 temporary center for services and revivals after the sanctuary
2329 was destroyed in a fire, and the church's devoted congregants
2430 have supported each other in times of hardship and have grown and
2531 rejoiced during times of abundance; and
2632 WHEREAS, The celebration of the church's 100th anniversary
2733 is an opportunity for all to reflect on its rich history and on
2834 the many benefits it has provided to the Silsbee community and
2935 beyond through its ministries over the past century; now,
3036 therefore, be it
3137 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
3238 Legislature, hereby recognize First Pentecostal Church of
3339 Silsbee on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and extend to
3440 its clergy and members of the congregation best wishes for a
3541 joyous commemorative celebration and for continued success in
3642 their ministry; and, be it further
3743 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3844 the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
