7+ SENATE RESOLUTION
58 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
69 citizens of Waco in mourning the loss of John Eric "J. J." Joe,
710 who died February 25, 2025, at the age of 54; and
8- WHEREAS, Born in Arlington on November 14, 1970, John
9- Eric Joe excelled in academics and football as a student at
10- Lamar High School, and his uncompromising work ethic,
11- uplifting spirit and charismatic personality helped to pave
12- his path to success as a college athlete and in his future
13- career in sports broadcasting; and
14- WHEREAS, J. J. joined the Baylor University football
15- team in 1990 and quickly gained acclaim for his talent as the
16- team's starting quarterback; during his four years on the
17- team, he was a three-time Academic All-American player, and he
18- set records for passing, completions, touchdown passes, and
19- offensive yards that still rank him among the top 10 in Baylor
20- University history; he was inducted into the Baylor Athletics
21- Hall of Fame in 2006; and
22- WHEREAS, His dedication to the sport and to the
23- university earned him a position with the Baylor football
24- radio broadcast team in 2004, and he found much fulfillment in
25- his role as a color analyst for 21 seasons; through his
26- broadcasting and his community involvement, he shared his
27- passion for football with countless supporters and made a
28- positive impact in the lives of many young athletes; and

33- immeasurably; and
34- WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
35- he gave unselfishly to others, and his determination, warmth,
36- and infectious sense of humor will be forever cherished by his
37- loving family, the Baylor community, and by all who were
38- privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it

33+ three sons, Jordan, Josh, and Jacob, who were each a source of

3940 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
40- Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
41- bereaved family of John Eric Joe; and, be it further

42+ family of John Eric Joe; and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4344 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4445 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4546 memory of J. J. Joe.
