2	8		WHEREAS, Proud representatives of the South Texas
3		-	Independent School District are gathering in Austin on March
4		-	~~12,~~ 2025, in celebration of South Texas ISD Day at the State
5		-	~~Capitol;~~ and
	9	+	Independent School District are gathering in Austin on March 12,
	10	+	2025, in celebration of South Texas ISD Day at the State Capitol;
	11	+	and
6	12		WHEREAS, Established by order of the state legislature in
7		-	1964, South Texas ISD began as a residential school in Edinburg
8		-	for students with disabilities, who at the time were excluded
9		-	from public education; during the 1970s, the district enrolled
10		-	special education students from Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy
11		-	Counties and provided them with the opportunity to develop
12		-	valuable life and vocational skills while participating in
13		-	sports and other activities; today, the district continues to
14		-	offer educational and occupational training to individuals
15		-	with disabilities through full-time enrollment and half-day
16		-	programs; and

25	30		Medical Professions, South Texas ISD World Scholars, South Texas
26		-	ISD Preparatory Academy, South Texas ISD Rising Scholars
27		-	~~Academy,~~ and South Texas ISD Virtual Academy; and
	31	+	ISD Preparatory Academy, South Texas ISD Rising Scholars Academy,
	32	+	and South Texas ISD Virtual Academy; and
28	33		WHEREAS, An open-enrollment district, South Texas ISD
29	34		benefits from the able leadership of superintendent Dr. Marco
30		-	Antonio Lara Jr.; its schools are consistently ranked among
31		-	the best in the state and nation by Niche and U.S. News & World
32		-	Report and have made frequent appearances on Educational
33		-	Results Partnership Texas Honor Roll lists; four of its
34		-	campuses have been designated as Blue Ribbon Schools by the
35		-	U.S. Department of Education, and the district has further
36		-	been honored by Niche by being highly ranked on its Districts
37		-	with the Best Teachers in Texas and Best Places to Teach in
38		-	Texas lists for multiple years; and
	35	+	Antonio Lara Jr.; its schools are consistently ranked among the
	36	+	best in the state and nation by Niche and U.S. News & World Report
	37	+	and have made frequent appearances on Educational Results
	38	+	Partnership Texas Honor Roll lists; four of its campuses have been

42		-	young Texans explore pathways to success that align with their
43		-	unique talents and career aspirations; now, therefore, be it
44		-	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
45		-	Legislature, hereby recognize March 12, 2025, as South Texas
46		-	ISD Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting
47		-	delegation sincere best wishes for a productive and enjoyable
48		-	stay in Austin.
