8 | 14 | | Johnson, Herbert "Chickdog" Johnson is a Second Chief and a |

9 | 15 | | member of the Deer Clan of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas |

10 | 16 | | who has devoted himself to preserving and strengthening his |

11 | 17 | | tribe; after graduating from Big Sandy High School, he attended |

12 | 18 | | Lon Morris College on a baseball scholarship and studied early |

13 | 19 | | childhood education at Angelina College; and |

14 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson began his career in public service as |

15 | 21 | | a teacher assistant at the Alabama-Coushatta Head Start; he |

16 | 22 | | completed firefighter training at the Texas A&M Extension |
---|
17 | 23 | | Service Fire School, and for more than 30 years, he has |
---|
18 | 24 | | diligently served the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Nation Volunteer |
---|
19 | 25 | | Fire Department to safeguard his community; and |
---|
20 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Herbert Johnson served as the first president of |

21 | 27 | | the Alabama-Coushatta Youth Council and has continued his |
---|
22 | 28 | | leadership in tribal and civic affairs and an Elder and Clerk of |
---|
23 | 29 | | Session at the Indian Presbyterian Church; he actively supports |
---|
24 | 30 | | numerous youth programs and community initiatives, including the |
---|
25 | 31 | | Lil Dribblers basketball program, pow-wows, and holiday |
---|
26 | 32 | | celebrations, and his Christmas Eve charity drives have become a |
---|
27 | 33 | | cherished local tradition; and |
---|
28 | 34 | | WHEREAS, A trusted voice in the community, Mr. Johnson |
---|
29 | 35 | | provides updates and news to tribal members as host of the KREZ |
---|
30 | 36 | | Podcast, and he serves on the boards of the Tyler, Angelina, and |
---|
31 | 37 | | Polk County Chambers of Commerce as well as the board of Polk |
---|
32 | 38 | | County CARES; and |
---|
33 | 39 | | WHEREAS, A gifted speaker and cultural ambassador, this |
---|
34 | 40 | | esteemed chief frequently serves as Master of Ceremonies at |

35 | 41 | | various celebrations and at pow-wows nationwide, and as Mikko |

36 | 42 | | Istimaatokla, he is committed to preserving the rich language, |
---|
37 | 43 | | history, and culture of the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Nation for |

39 | 45 | | WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. Johnson and his |
---|
40 | 46 | | wife, Victoria, are the proud parents of their daughters, Aaliyah |
---|
41 | 47 | | and Stormi, and his deep-rooted love for family extends to his |
---|
42 | 48 | | siblings, nieces, and nephew, all of whom benefit from his |
---|
43 | 49 | | guidance and support; and |
---|
44 | 50 | | WHEREAS, Through his local government leadership and |

45 | 51 | | tireless commitment to public service, Herbert Johnson Jr. has |

46 | 52 | | enriched the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Nation and has made an |

47 | 53 | | enduring impact in his community and state, and it is truly |

48 | 54 | | fitting that he receive special recognition for his dedication to |

51 | 57 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
