No. 244 SENATE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Lavaca County in celebrating Lavaca County Day at the State Capitol on March 17, 2025; and WHEREAS, Established in 1846, Lavaca County rests on 971 square miles that encompass the empresario land grants of Stephen F. Austin and Green DeWitt along the Lavaca River; Hallettsville was selected as the county seat, and the county courthouse was completed in 1897; the impressive Romanesque Revival structure is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and was restored through the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program; and WHEREAS, The Lavaca Historical Museum recounts the immigration of early Czech and German settlers to the area, whose enduring cultural influence is displayed in the county's beautiful painted churches and at the annual Kolache Fest; the county is also known for hosting such events as the Fiddlers Frolics competition and the Texas State Domino Championship, and it is home to the famed Spoetzl Brewery that produces the world-famous Shiner beer; and WHEREAS, Ranching, agriculture, and the oil and gas industries help shape the local economy, and Lavaca County remains a state leader in the rearing of beef cattle; families benefit from quality educational opportunities and dedicated law enforcement personnel and volunteer fire fighters; and WHEREAS, A vibrant region with rich heritage, Lavaca County is a rural gem of the Lone Star State, and residents can take pride in their flourishing communities while looking forward to a bright and prosperous future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Lavaca County for their many contributions to the Lone Star State and extend to them best wishes for a memorable Lavaca County Day at the Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the county as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
