                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 245
 WHEREAS, U.S. Army Brigadier General (Ret.) Joe E. Ramirez
 Jr. retired as vice president for student affairs at Texas A&M
 University on January 1, 2025, drawing to a close an exceptional
 tenure with the institution; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Joe Ramirez earned a physical
 education degree in 1979 from Texas A&M University, where he was
 a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and the Corps of Cadets;
 he later obtained a master's degree in management from Webster
 University and a master's degree in strategic studies from the
 U.S. Army War College; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez distinguished himself during a
 military career of 31 years; he held leadership positions
 worldwide in joint and operational commands, and he served as
 deputy chief of staff for the U.S. Central Command during
 Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom; moreover, he was
 the deputy division commander for the 2nd Infantry Division in
 the Republic of Korea and a deputy director for the United States
 European Command in Germany; and
 WHEREAS, In 2010, General Ramirez returned to Texas A&M as
 the 45th commandant of the Corps of Cadets; he dedicated himself
 to mentoring the next generation of leaders, instilling in cadets
 the values of discipline, honor, and service, and under his
 direction, the Corps experienced its most significant growth
 since the early 1970s; in 2021, he was appointed vice president
 for student affairs, and in that role, he continued to positively
 impact the lives of students and his colleagues; and
 WHEREAS, Civically engaged, General Ramirez belongs to the
 boards of such organizations as the Boys & Girls Clubs of the
 Brazos Valley, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas,
 and the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce; retirement
 will afford him the opportunity to spend more time with his wife,
 Theresa, and their five children, four stepchildren, and eight
 grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Joe Ramirez's dedication, experience, and
 commitment to excellence have greatly benefited Texas A&M
 University and the military community, and he may indeed take
 pride in his outstanding record of service as he embarks on the
 next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
 Legislature, hereby congratulate U.S. Army Brigadier General
 (Ret.) Joe E. Ramirez Jr. on his retirement as vice president for
 student affairs at Texas A&M University and extend to him sincere
 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 prepared for General Ramirez as an expression of high regard from
 the Texas Senate.
