7+ R E S O L U T I O N
28 WHEREAS, U.S. Army Brigadier General (Ret.) Joe E. Ramirez
39 Jr. retired as vice president for student affairs at Texas A&M
410 University on January 1, 2025, drawing to a close an exceptional
511 tenure with the institution; and
612 WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Joe Ramirez earned a physical
7- education degree in 1979 from Texas A&M University, where he was
8- a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and the Corps of Cadets;
9- he later obtained a master's degree in management from Webster
10- University and a master's degree in strategic studies from the
11- U.S. Army War College; and
12- WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez distinguished himself during a
13- military career of 31 years; he held leadership positions
14- worldwide in joint and operational commands, and he served as
15- deputy chief of staff for the U.S. Central Command during
16- Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom; moreover, he was
17- the deputy division commander for the 2nd Infantry Division in
18- the Republic of Korea and a deputy director for the United States
19- European Command in Germany; and

2025 WHEREAS, In 2010, General Ramirez returned to Texas A&M as
21- the 45th commandant of the Corps of Cadets; he dedicated himself
22- to mentoring the next generation of leaders, instilling in cadets
23- the values of discipline, honor, and service, and under his
24- direction, the Corps experienced its most significant growth
25- since the early 1970s; in 2021, he was appointed vice president
26- for student affairs, and in that role, he continued to positively
27- impact the lives of students and his colleagues; and
26+ the 45th commandant of the Corps of Cadets; he dedicated himself to
27+ mentoring the next generation of leaders, instilling in cadets the

31- and the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce; retirement
32- will afford him the opportunity to spend more time with his wife,
33- Theresa, and their five children, four stepchildren, and eight
34- grandchildren; and
34+ boards of such organizations as the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Brazos
35+ Valley, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas, and the
36+ Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce; retirement will afford
37+ him the opportunity to spend more time with his wife, Theresa, and
38+ their five children, four stepchildren, and eight grandchildren;

3540 WHEREAS, Joe Ramirez's dedication, experience, and
3641 commitment to excellence have greatly benefited Texas A&M
37- University and the military community, and he may indeed take
38- pride in his outstanding record of service as he embarks on the
39- next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
40- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
41- Legislature, hereby congratulate U.S. Army Brigadier General
42- (Ret.) Joe E. Ramirez Jr. on his retirement as vice president for
43- student affairs at Texas A&M University and extend to him sincere
44- best wishes for the future; and, be it further
42+ University and the military community, and he may indeed take pride
43+ in his outstanding record of service as he embarks on the next
44+ exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
45+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
46+ hereby congratulate U.S. Army Brigadier General (Ret.) Joe E.
47+ Ramirez Jr. on his retirement as vice president for student affairs
48+ at Texas A&M University and extend to him sincere best wishes for
49+ the future; and, be it further
4550 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
