| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | recognize members of the Hindu faith who reside in Texas and all |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | who are joining in celebration of the occasion of Holi, which is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | taking place on March 14, 2025; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, is an |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | ancient Hindu spring festival and one of the most revered and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | joyous holidays in India; it is celebrated across the world by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | people of diverse nationalities and religions to mark the start |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | of spring and to symbolize harmony, new beginnings, and the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | triumph of good over evil; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The festival lasts for a night and a day and begins |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | on the evening of the last full moon of the Hindu lunar year, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | typically in February or March; the celebration includes a bonfire, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and attendees gather to express merriment through song and dance to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | overcome negativity in preparation for the new year; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The following day, people of all social |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | backgrounds dress in white and join together to cover each other |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | with brightly colored water and powders that represent the joy |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and enthusiasm of the festival; in the evening, people gather |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | with loved ones to enjoy festive foods and to honor family, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | friends, and various Hindu deities; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The origins of this jubilant festival can be |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | traced back many centuries to various legends in Indian |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | mythology, and the event is recognized and celebrated throughout |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the world by people of all backgrounds who relate to the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | festival's themes of love, renewal, and progress; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, The celebration of Holi is a vibrant expression |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | of the cultural heritage and traditions that serve to strengthen |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | and connect the many diverse cultures and communities that make |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | up the unique fabric of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby extend to all participating in the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | festivities of Holi best wishes for a rewarding and joyous |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | honor of this special occasion. |
