77 SENATE RESOLUTION
88 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
99 recognize members of the Hindu faith who reside in Texas and all
1010 who are joining in celebration of the occasion of Holi, which is
1111 taking place on March 14, 2025; and
1212 WHEREAS, Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, is an
1313 ancient Hindu spring festival and one of the most revered and
1414 joyous holidays in India; it is celebrated across the world by
1515 people of diverse nationalities and religions to mark the start
1616 of spring and to symbolize harmony, new beginnings, and the
1717 triumph of good over evil; and
1818 WHEREAS, The festival lasts for a night and a day and begins
1919 on the evening of the last full moon of the Hindu lunar year,
2020 typically in February or March; the celebration includes a bonfire,
2121 and attendees gather to express merriment through song and dance to
2222 overcome negativity in preparation for the new year; and
2323 WHEREAS, The following day, people of all social
2424 backgrounds dress in white and join together to cover each other
2525 with brightly colored water and powders that represent the joy
2626 and enthusiasm of the festival; in the evening, people gather
2727 with loved ones to enjoy festive foods and to honor family,
2828 friends, and various Hindu deities; and
2929 WHEREAS, The origins of this jubilant festival can be
3030 traced back many centuries to various legends in Indian
3131 mythology, and the event is recognized and celebrated throughout
3232 the world by people of all backgrounds who relate to the
3333 festival's themes of love, renewal, and progress; and
3434 WHEREAS, The celebration of Holi is a vibrant expression
3535 of the cultural heritage and traditions that serve to strengthen
3636 and connect the many diverse cultures and communities that make
3737 up the unique fabric of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
3939 Legislature, hereby extend to all participating in the
4040 festivities of Holi best wishes for a rewarding and joyous
4141 celebration; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
4343 honor of this special occasion.
