2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize the Children's Health Extracorporeal Membrane
4	10		Oxygenation (ECMO) program on the exceptional life-saving
5	11		pediatric care it provides to critically ill children and their
6	12		families in North Texas; and
7	13		WHEREAS, ECMO treatment works by circulating a patient's
8	14		blood through a machine that removes carbon dioxide and adds
9	15		oxygen; a child with critical heart or lung problems can receive
10	16		ECMO therapy for days or even weeks while undergoing care at
11	17		Children's Health, during which time they are treated by a team
12	18		of specialists in the hospital's pediatric intensive care unit;
13	19		and
14	20		WHEREAS, Located in the Southwestern Medical District, in
15	21		the heart of Dallas, Children's Health has been the primary
16	22		clinical partner of The University of Texas Southwestern Medical
17	23		Center since 1961; the hospital has provided extracorporeal life
18	24		support to more than 1,200 patients over the past 35 years,
19	25		giving families hope for survival when all other forms of
20	26		conventional life support have failed; and
21		-	WHEREAS, The ECMO program at Children's Health has ~~received~~
22		-	international recognition as a Platinum Center of ~~Excellence~~
23		-	from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization; ~~Children's~~
24		-	Health was also the first institution in the world to ~~have its~~
25		-	ECMO educational program endorsed by the international
	27	+	WHEREAS, The ECMO program at Children's Health has
	28	+	received international recognition as a Platinum Center of
	29	+	Excellence from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization;
	30	+	Children's Health was also the first institution in the world to
	31	+	have its ECMO educational program endorsed by the international
26	32		organization; and
27	33		WHEREAS, Bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to
28	34		their work, the ECMO specialists at Children's Health include
29	35		doctors Ethan Sanford, Archana Dhar, Cindy Darnell-Bowens,
30	36		Lakshmi Raman, Amy Lee, Priya Bhaskar, and Sam Davila; registered
31	37		nurses Marshall Stephenson, Laura Hatton, Margarita Ramos,
32	38		William Smiley, Brittany Cramer, Amy Hadley, Kari Powers,
33	39		Michael Williams, Emily Collins, and Ricardo Medrano; and
34	40		registered respiratory therapists Donna Taylor, Shannon Mills,
35	41		Kevin Lovett, Bob Villanueva, George Sutherland, Dan Hill, Darla
36	42		Lytton, and John Darling; and
37	43		WHEREAS, Specialists of the ECMO team at Children's Health
38	44		in Dallas are dedicated to providing advanced, around-the-clock
39	45		care to young patients who are in need of this innovative form of
40	46		therapy, and it is indeed fitting that they be recognized for
41	47		their invaluable contributions to quality health care in the Lone
42	48		Star State; now, therefore, be it
43	49		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
44	50		Legislature, hereby honor the members of the Extracorporeal
45	51		Membrane Oxygenation team at Children's Health for their
46	52		exceptional service to North Texas families and extend to them
47	53		sincere best wishes for continued success with their important
48	54		work; and, be it further
49	55		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
50	56		the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
