7+ SENATE RESOLUTION
28 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
39 recognize the Children's Health Extracorporeal Membrane
410 Oxygenation (ECMO) program on the exceptional life-saving
511 pediatric care it provides to critically ill children and their
612 families in North Texas; and
713 WHEREAS, ECMO treatment works by circulating a patient's
814 blood through a machine that removes carbon dioxide and adds
915 oxygen; a child with critical heart or lung problems can receive
1016 ECMO therapy for days or even weeks while undergoing care at
1117 Children's Health, during which time they are treated by a team
1218 of specialists in the hospital's pediatric intensive care unit;
1319 and
1420 WHEREAS, Located in the Southwestern Medical District, in
1521 the heart of Dallas, Children's Health has been the primary
1622 clinical partner of The University of Texas Southwestern Medical
1723 Center since 1961; the hospital has provided extracorporeal life
1824 support to more than 1,200 patients over the past 35 years,
1925 giving families hope for survival when all other forms of
2026 conventional life support have failed; and
21- WHEREAS, The ECMO program at Children's Health has received
22- international recognition as a Platinum Center of Excellence
23- from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization; Children's
24- Health was also the first institution in the world to have its
25- ECMO educational program endorsed by the international
27+ WHEREAS, The ECMO program at Children's Health has
28+ received international recognition as a Platinum Center of
29+ Excellence from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization;
30+ Children's Health was also the first institution in the world to
31+ have its ECMO educational program endorsed by the international
2632 organization; and
2733 WHEREAS, Bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to
2834 their work, the ECMO specialists at Children's Health include
2935 doctors Ethan Sanford, Archana Dhar, Cindy Darnell-Bowens,
3036 Lakshmi Raman, Amy Lee, Priya Bhaskar, and Sam Davila; registered
3137 nurses Marshall Stephenson, Laura Hatton, Margarita Ramos,
3238 William Smiley, Brittany Cramer, Amy Hadley, Kari Powers,
3339 Michael Williams, Emily Collins, and Ricardo Medrano; and
3440 registered respiratory therapists Donna Taylor, Shannon Mills,
3541 Kevin Lovett, Bob Villanueva, George Sutherland, Dan Hill, Darla
3642 Lytton, and John Darling; and
3743 WHEREAS, Specialists of the ECMO team at Children's Health
3844 in Dallas are dedicated to providing advanced, around-the-clock
3945 care to young patients who are in need of this innovative form of
4046 therapy, and it is indeed fitting that they be recognized for
4147 their invaluable contributions to quality health care in the Lone
4248 Star State; now, therefore, be it
4349 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
4450 Legislature, hereby honor the members of the Extracorporeal
4551 Membrane Oxygenation team at Children's Health for their
4652 exceptional service to North Texas families and extend to them
4753 sincere best wishes for continued success with their important
4854 work; and, be it further
4955 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
5056 the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
