	8	+	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the residents
	9	+	of Ellis County in celebrating March 19, 2025, as Ellis County Day
	10	+	at the Texas Capitol; and
5	11		WHEREAS, A county of rural charm and natural beauty, Ellis
6	12		County is located in North Central Texas and was created in 1849
7	13		from Robertson and Navarro Counties; and
8	14		WHEREAS, The county was named for Richard Ellis, who was
9	15		president of the Convention of 1836, which declared Texas'
10	16		independence from Mexico; and
11	17		WHEREAS, During the early days, the land in Ellis County
12	18		served as the buffalo hunting grounds for several tribes; the
13		-	earliest inhabitants and hunters were the Tonkawa, Kickapoo,
14		-	~~Bidai,~~ Anadarko, and Waco; and

35	41		WHEREAS, Ennis, situated in the eastern part of the county,
36	42		was designated the Bluebonnet City of Texas by the Texas
37	43		Legislature in 1997; a cultural center for descendants of Czech
38		-	farmers who first settled on the Blackland Prairie in 1875, Ennis
39		-	is the site of the National Polka Festival, as well as the Texas
40		-	Motorplex, a professional and amateur track that offers
41		-	~~world-class~~ auto racing; and
42		-	WHEREAS, The other charming towns of Ellis County balance
43		-	~~the~~ comfort of small-town life with convenient access to downtown
